Q: I want to join the Tri-Cities Rocketeers and attend one of your launches. What do I have to do?
A: You can fill out a membership form at our next launch and pay the $20 yearly dues. Presently you cannot do this on-line. Also fill out the liability form ahead of time that is available on our website and bring it with you.
Q: I joined the Tri-Cities Rocketeers but did not receive a membership card and do not receive monthly emails from the club. Did I get dropped from the membership list?
A: We do not have membership cards – we keep track of our current members. When you show up at the next launch, we will know you are a current member. We do not normally send out group mailings like other clubs. The primary source for our club information is our website or the TCR Forum.
Q: I want to join the club – do you take checks or electronic forms of payment?
A: At this time it is cash only.
Q: I want to certify L1 NAR (or TRA) and was wondering how to do so at your next launch. How do I buy a cert motor?
A: The main thing you need for L1 certification is to be an active NAR (or TRA) member, and fill out the L1 certification paperwork before you show up. SBR Rocketry is no longer in business so our vendor situation is in flux right now. Right now we can't guarantee a motor vendor will be on-site so you may want to buy your motor ahead of time. You also need to fill out the Liability Waiver form (from our website) ahead of time if possible. We have plenty of club members who can sign off on certification attempts at each launch.
Q: I want to take the test and certify L2 NAR (or TRA) and was wondering how to do so at your next launch.
A: Show up at our next launch and we will administer the test. Fill out the L2 certification paperwork before you show up and bring a signed liability form.
Q: We are a group of students who want to want to fly certification flights. What is the process?
A: make sure the students who want to certify have their NAR memberships well ahead of time and bring the NAR certification paperwork with them. You also need to fill out the Student/Group Liability Waiver form (from our website) ahead of time. We have plenty of club members who can sign off on certification attempts if needed.
Q: Do you allow EX motors, and if so when?
A: Yes, we allow EX motors. Please see the launch calendar for the TRA designated research launch days. We can add more as requested by EX fliers – just send an email to us in advance with the requested launch date.
Q: Do you allow sparky motors? What about the fire danger during the summer?
A: Sparky motors are allowed. They are launched from the sod circle so that they pose no fire danger. We fly on private land and take extra precautions later in the year, including an on-site truck with fire-fighting tank, pump, and hose.
Q: What is the biggest motor I can fly at your launch?
A: We are not impulse limited, just altitude limited to 9000’. If you have a flight that will come close to our waiver, please show us the simulation data so that we can verify you will not bust the waiver.
Q: Is the launch a go? How will I know if a launch is cancelled?
A: The answer is YES unless you hear from us. If things change, we will update the website by the Wednesday before the launch at the latest, as well as the TCR Forum.
Q: Do you allow night flights?
A: Yes, at every multi-day launch. Please make sure your rocket is well illuminated and is stable.
Q: Do you have a rocket vendor on-site?
A: Our rocket vendor at the site was Scott Binder Rocketry, but he is no longer in business. Harlan Hefner is our new vendor, and said he will be on site for all of our launches this year. A: If your dog is rocket and people friendly, then yes. If your dog likes to bark at people and rocket flights, please leave him/her at home.
